Restorative Justice: Youth Justice Group Conferencing and Beyond

Facilitators: Julie Boffa, Policy Manager, Jesuit Social Services;
Daniel Clements, Manager, Brosnan Youth Services

  • Restorative justice provides an alternative approach to responding to crime, focusing on healing and repairing harm rather than an adversarial, punishment-based approach
  • This workshop will provide an overview of restorative justice approaches, drawing particularly on the experiences of Jesuit Social Services in the delivery of the Youth Justice Group Conferencing program
  • Findings of the evaluation of the program will be presented, as well as opportunity for participants to consider the application of principles and practices central to restorative justice in other justice contexts
