Welcome Letter

Dear Colleague,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 4th Annual National Telemedicine Summit, the only event to focus exclusively on telemedicine in Australia. With so much pressure on the healthcare system, the nation’s GP clinics, emergency rooms and hospitals must find new ways to access, assess and treat patients. This event will demonstrate, through key clinician-led case studies, how practitioners are embracing telemedicine as a viable option in providing quality healthcare at a distance.

This event is an established feature on the telemedicine practitioner’s yearly agenda. There is no doubt that telemedicine is a positive tool in providing support, however the question of funding and remuneration for the clinicians providing this support is now a key issue. Now that the MBS items have been released however, the issues of funding have not disappeared but the questions have changed.

Delegates will hear from the Department of Health and Aging as to how the Medicare rebates are structured and how/if the impetus for carrying out telemedicine consultations has increased.

As well as hearing about the structure of payments and the inherent standardising issues that come hand in hand with this, delegates will hear key case studies from clinicians in the field. With potential applications for a range of health areas emergency medicine, mental health, paediatrics, radiology, pathology and many more, the potential for telemedicine is massive and there are examples of this range of work being done now.

I look forward to meeting you at the event and wish you a very productive and informative few days.

Best wishes

Emma Day
