FeTech 2010

IIR Conferences inaugural FeTech Conference is well timed to explore the upgrading and beneficiation of lower grade ore for export markets, and is supported by MagNet. Magnetite is more expensive to produce than hematite or direct shipping ore (DSO), but earns a price premium over "normal" hematite as its better quality and cheaper to use in the steel mills.

The Chinese dragon's appetite for Australian ore to feed its steel furnaces grows.

The local ore industry is a focal point for investment and development, primarily in its Pilbara heartland but gaining traction in the burgeoning South Australian market.

Magnetite and other alternative ores - previously thought uneconomic to mine - can make money, with companies studying ways to improve the processing of lower grade magnetite and high impurity ore deposits.

Innovation in the processing of alternative ores is to be a major focus of FeTech 2010, with approaches to high phosphorus ore, access to infrastructure, pricing projections and company updates also a major part of the agenda.

Take your opportunity to receive a comprehensive update on iron ore developments from leading speakers and industry professionals with insight into the outlook for the industry now and into the future.

"The development of WA's large-scale magnetite projects have the potential to deliver massive gains to Australia; not least is the significant infrastructure investment that for our member companies alone totals more than $9.6 billion. With an estimated 8,600 new jobs in the construction phases as well as annual export revenue in excess of $6 billion, we think the importance of the magnetite projects are crucial to Australia’s long-term iron ore industry,"
- AJM, 7 August 2009
