The Pilbara Framework seeks to guide the future development of the Pilbara region over the next 15-20 years, whilst protecting its significant natural, landscape, conservation and social attributes. The framework addresses the scale and distribution of future population growth and housing development, as well as identifying strategies for dealing with economic growth, environmental issues, transport, infrastructure, water resources, tourism and the emerging impacts of climate change.

After the presentation delegates will be given the opportunity to discuss their future roles in the development of the region.

In October 2008, Atlas became the first junior iron ore company to produce Iron Ore from the Pilbara with exports commencing from its Pardoo Mine in December 2008. Atlas is now focused on developing its next mine, the Abydos project. Atlas is confident in its capacity to export Direct Shipping Iron Ore at 6Mtpa from the port of Port Hedland by 2010.
