Pre-Conference Site Tour

A: Gladstone by Chopper: Wednesday 22 February and Friday 24 February 2012

One-hour Helicopter tours will take place from noon on Wednesday pre-conference and post-conference on Friday in small groups. When booking nominate a preferred day and Violeta will finalise a flight time with you closer to the conference date.

Your flight in a Squirrel helicopter will take you over Gladstone and its surrounds where you will see sites including:

Gladstone Harbour, QAL Alumina Refinery, Barney Point Coal Terminal, Port Central, Gladstone marina, RG Tanna Coal Terminal, Wiggins Island, Fisherman’s Landing, Cement Australia, QER Shale Oil Pilot Project, Yarwun Alumina Refinery, Orica Chemical Plant, NRG Power Plant, Gladstone City Rail Corridor, Gladstone Airport, Tannum Sands & Beaches, Gladstone Harbour Shipping Channels, Boyne Island, Boyne Smelter, Awoonga Dam, Proposed Boulder Steel Site, LNG Pipeline Corridor and the Northern Rail Corridor.
 

B: Gladstone Ports Corporation Site Tour: Wednesday 22 February 2012

On this two hour harbour tour, participants will sail up to the Western Basin and have the chance to view the sites under development as part of Australia’s first Coal Seam Gas (CSG) to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry.

They include:

  • Fisherman's Landing reclamation
  • Curtis Island LNG precinct
  • Shore based logistics centres

Tour participants will see the Wiggins Island site, the home to Queensland's next coal export terminal the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal.

The tour also goes past Gladstone Ports Corporation's RG Tanna Coal Terminal.

At the conclusion of the tour delegates will enjoy drinks and light refreshments on board before docking back at Gladstone Marina.

Participants will need to assemble at the Gladstone Marina at 4:15pm. Here they will board the vessel and embark on the two hour harbour tour which will be led by a representative from the Gladstone Ports Corporation Limited (GPC).

 

  GPC manages and operates the Port of Gladstone, including the Gladstone Marina and its recreational parklands, as well as the Port Alma Shipping Terminal and the Port of Bundaberg.
